Should I have 5” or 6” Gutters Installed?
It depends on the size of your roof. There are calculations that can be used to determine the proper size gutter for a house. We prefer to keep this explanation simple. If you have a small two-bedroom ranch 5″ gutters are sufficient. For a home bigger than a two-bedroom ranch you should consider moving up to a 6″ gutter.
Why do some companies only recommend one Gutter Size?
Many companies purchase either a 5 or 6-inch gutter machine. This is why they usually only recommend the gutter size they happen to sell and install. Home Shield Coating® owns a dual purpose KWM Smart Machine that can make both 5- and 6-inch gutters, so we recommend what you need not what we have available. We sell Fast Flow Gutters® and Gutter Guards which are designed to move large amounts of water away from your foundation.
Does my house need gutters?
Yes, the primary purpose of Gutters is to Catch and Move as much water away from your foundation as possible. Homes without Gutters have more water damage in the form of rotting wood and water seepage and eventually form foundation cracks.
How can I tell if my Gutters are too Small?
There are several sure tell signs that will indicate your gutters are too small. Overflowing gutters are the most obvious. But also, if your sump pump runs continuously, that means you have an excessive amount of water around your foundation. If your basement smells damp or if you see wet areas near the foundation walls inside your basement your gutters aren’t working effectively.
Are 6” Gutters more expensive than 5” Gutters?
Most companies do charge a premium for 6″ Gutters and oversized 3×4 downspouts. We don’t think this makes much sense, so we have simple pricing both our 5- and 6-inch gutters cost the same. One benefit of going with a 6″ gutter is that it catches almost double the amount of water a 5″ gutter does. Schedule Your Replacement Gutter Estimate Today!
