Why Doesn’t Exterior Paint Last Very Long?

Exterior paints used to last up to 10 years before 1978 because they contained lead and mercury. However, the use of lead in paint was banned in 1978 by the federal government, and the Environmental Protection Agency prohibited the use of mercury in latex paint in 1990 due to health risks.
