Concrete Shield Coating® Epoxy Flake Floors for Garages, Basements, Houses, Hangers, Bars, Restaurants, Banquet Halls, Hotels, Motels and Airbnb Properties.

Concrete Shield Coating® by HomeShield is available in three different formulations an Epoxy, Polyurea and a Polyaspartic version. The debate over which is better has been happening online for years. The truth is they all serve a different purpose, and which one is better really depends on what it’s being used for. When it comes to floor coatings there really isn’t a one size fits all solution unlike some companies will have you believe. We offer you the correct product for your situation we don’t just sell you the coating we happen to have in stock.

What is the difference between Polyaspartic and Polyurea?

They are almost the same a Polyaspartic is a Polyurea with a slowed-down cure rate. The purpose of this is to allow the coating to be applied over a longer time frame and in a more controlled traditional manner. Polyaspartic mixtures function well as a topcoat application, but there are limitations when used as a basecoat. As a basecoat, they will form a weaker surface bond to raw concrete that can deteriorate over time. Polyurea has a short application window and dries extremely quick within minutes. We feel that a slower drying Epoxy base coat tends to penetrate and bonds to the raw concrete better. This is why our Concrete Shield Coating® (Flake System) is comprised of a Hybrid Epoxy base coat which also helps block moisture. We then broadcast the vinyl flakes into our Hybrid Epoxy. We finish up the application by using a Polyaspartic Topcoat to create a permanent durable finish. Our method usually takes TWO DAYS.

Polyurea and Polyaspartic One Day Garage Floor Installs.

There is a lot of marketing hype about one day garage installs floor installs using Polyurea Coatings. Some companies choose to run their operation by selling and installing as quickly as possible. It’s a numbers game for them and failures are part of the equation. Unfortunately, this business model doesn’t allow much time to perform a proper concrete moisture test. One of the biggest reasons an epoxy floor will fail is because of moisture. If we can get your floor done in a day we will. If not, we’re ok with coming back a second day as long as it gets done correctly. As you research concrete floor coatings on the internet you will quickly realize that everyone claims to have the best and fastest return to service floor coatings out there. But currently we are the only ones offering a 10yr Labor Guarantee!

Moisture Testing Concrete Prior to Coating

At Concrete Shield Coating® we always test for moisture in the concrete. We feel the best way to eliminate epoxy floor coating failure is to test it before coating it. There are two tests that are typically used, one is a calcium chloride test (ASTM F1860-11 Standard) and the other is an in situ relative humidity test (ASTM F2170-11).

No Moisture in Concrete

Just because moisture isn’t present during testing it doesn’t mean it won’t develop later. At Concrete Shield Coating® we always put down an Epoxy Hybrid Base Coat that helps block moisture first. We don’t want to take any chances when it comes to your property. We prefer to work an extra day and be 100% certain we don’t have future problems.

Epoxy Flake Floors vs Solid Colors.

Our epoxy flake floor systems are our best-selling floor system because they’re both beautiful and affordable. But some of our customers require a solid color epoxy floor. These solid color floors are very popular in the manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, restaurant, and airport industry. We can also embed company logos into solid color and flake floors. Make sure to look at our epoxy floor color visualizer.
